Louisiana proved to be a profitable shipping point on the Mississippi River in the 1800s. Residents wishing to show off their new wealth built large, beautiful homes; over 40 of these historic homes still grace Louisiana's streets today! Louisiana’s downtown boosts two separate historic districts creating the most intact Victorian streetscape in Missouri including a large collection of Mesker buildings. Use your smart phone and our historic signs to take a self-guided tour through our tree lined streets watching for the 24 murals scattered throughout Louisiana. Visit the Louisiana Area Historical Museum to learn about the POW Camp that was here during WWII.

We welcome you to enjoy a day of shopping at our clothing boutiques, garden center, and antique stores. Walk to the top of Riverview Cemetery for panoramic views of the Mississippi River or eagle watch from Riverview Park viewing station then recharge at one of our restaurants.

We are proud to have been the home to a Missouri Governor, Silent Film Stars, a co-author of the 13th Amendment, and a famous jazz violinist. We are also home to 200-year-old Stark Bros. Nursery who popularized the Red & Golden Delicious Apples.
